Truckers and Teamsters convoy to ask California to ban driverless vehicles
On Tuesday, a gaggle of truckers and union members descended on Sacramento, California, to ask state officers to behave to ban driverless vehicles.
Teamsters organized a convoy that traveled from Los Angeles into Sacramento on Tuesday for a rally on the State Capitol constructing to demand that California Governor Gavin Newsom signal AB 316, successfully banning driverless vehicles from California roadways.
Teamsters argue that driverless vehicles are a risk to employees and to freeway security.

AB 316 was handed by the California Senate earlier this month and solely awaits Newsom’s signature to be handed into legislation.
Whereas California legislation at the moment permits for the testing and operation of autonomous automobiles weighing underneath 10,000 kilos with no human driver bodily contained in the car, AB 316 would handle this by “prohibit[ing] the operation of an autonomous car with a gross car weight of 10,000 kilos or extra on public roads for testing functions, transporting items, or transporting passengers with no human security operator bodily current within the autonomous car on the time of operation.”
AB 316 was launched within the California Legislature on January 23, 2023, by Meeting Member Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.
