Truck driver killed in explosion at Illinois ammunition plant
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating the dying of a truck driver at an ammunition plant in Madison County, Illinois, on Thursday.
The incident occurred late Thursday afternoon on the Olin/Winchester ammunition facility situated in East Alton, Illinois.
Authorities say that Oscar “Zeke” Bettorf, 60, was driving a semi truck loaded with shotgun shell primers when the primers exploded.
Bettorf was pronounced useless on the scene round 5:30 p.m.
Investigating businesses embody the East Alton Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations, Secretary of State Police Bomb Squad, State Fireplace Marshall’s Workplace, and the ATF.
Winchester launched an announcement on the incident:
“We’re deeply saddened {that a} Winchester worker was fatally injured this afternoon in an incident involving an organization automobile on the firm’s East Alton facility. Our ideas and prayers are with our worker’s household and coworkers. We aren’t releasing the worker’s title at the moment out of respect for the household. It is a tragedy, and we’ll conduct a full investigation to find out what occurred. The security of our workers, the neighborhood, and our surroundings is at all times our prime precedence.“
