Truck driver charged with working whereas intoxicated after sideswiping one other semi, making an attempt to flee on foot

Indiana State Police (ISP) arrested a truck driver following a two-vehicle collision on I-70 on Thursday.

The crash occurred round 11:25 a.m. on Might 11 in Putnam County, Indiana.

In line with ISP, Benjamin Polk, 32, was driving a 2021 Freightliner west on I-70 when he tried to go a 2015 Freightliner pushed by Jean Cadet, 37, close to mile marker 32.

Troopers say that Polk struck the rear of Cadet’s car after which sideswiped it.

From ISP:

“Polk overcorrected inflicting his semi to tip over onto the driving force’s facet.  Cadet instantly utilized his brakes. Polk’s overturned semi continued sliding westbound, finally coming to relaxation in entrance of Cadet’s stopped semi. After coming to a cease, Polk instantly climbed out of the passenger facet window and tried to flee from the accident scene.  Correctional Officers from a transport car noticed Polk working and have been in a position to apprehend him till troopers might arrive on the accident scene.”

Grasp Trooper Bradbury arrived on scene and “instantly detected” indicators of impairment in Polk, ISP stated.

Polk reportedly refused to undergo a subject sobriety check or chemical check.

Polk then was transported to a hospital after complaining about ache.

After Polk was medically cleared, he was booked into the Putnam County Jail on preliminary expenses together with:

  • Working a Motor Automobile Whereas Intoxicated, Class A Misdemeanor
  • Working a Motor Automobile Whereas Intoxicated Endangering a Individual, Class C Misdemeanor
