New York Metropolis passes invoice to create in a single day, off-street truck parking

In what seems to be a win-win for truck drivers and native residents, the New York Metropolis Coulc Thursday, Sept. 28, authorized laws to create a minimum of three long-term truck parking places within the metropolis.

The council’s web site says, “This invoice would require an company or workplace designated by the mayor to, by Dec. 31, 2025, establish a minimum of three places the place off-street parking for tractor-trailers and different business autos can be possible and applicable, and to supply parking at such places. Such places might embrace actual property owned by the town or by different governmental entities.”

The invoice doesn’t apply to vehicles which are parked and making deliveries.

The council’s motion comes because the surge in e-commerce is bringing extra vehicles into the town.

Final August, the town cracked down on illegally parked vehicles on metropolis streets. Within the first 5 days of the operation — from Aug. 15 by way of Aug. 19 — the NYPD issued 597 summonses, hooked up 89-wheel clamps, and towed 55 illegally parked autos to a short lived storage facility.
