Main Detroit interstate closure coming this weekend

The Michigan Division of Transportation (MDOT) is asking drivers to plan forward for a serious street closure in Detroit over the upcoming weekend to permit for crews to demolish an overpass.

Beginning at  9 p.m. on Friday, February 3, each instructions of I-94 might be closed between I-75 and I-96. The interstate will stay closed via the weekend and is predicted to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, February 6.

The I-94 closure will permit crews to demolish the Cass Avenue overpass above I-94.

Westbound I-94 site visitors might be detoured by way of southbound I-75 and westbound I-96 again to westbound I-94. Eastbound site visitors might be detoured by way of eastbound I-96 and northbound I-75 again to eastbound I-94. All entrance ramps to eastbound I-94 from thirtieth Avenue to M-10 (Lodge Freeway) and westbound I-94 from Mt. Elliott to Linwood streets might be closed by 9 p.m. Friday and can reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, in response to MDOT.

The next ramps will stay closed AFTER the weekend closure:

  • Northbound and southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) to eastbound I-94
  • Westbound I-94 to southbound M-10
  • John R. Highway entrance ramp to westbound I-94
  • Eastbound I-94 exit to John R/Woodward Ave

MDOT says that each one work on this $12.4 million undertaking might be accomplished by early 2024. street
